| Dd switched schools and is traveling a long distance on the bus. Looking into a phone for her. Don't want a full access iPhone because of cost and because she doesn't need that much, just phone/text and maybe GPS so we can locate her. We have old iPhones and AT&T, not sure how much adding her to our plan would cost. Any other options out there? Anyone use those burner phones you can get at the grocery stores? |
|
What about giving her your old phone and getting a new one for yourself?
|
| My daughter has the Motorola Z Play. We only use Android. |
| Basic flip phone. |
I'd do this. Virgin has the SE for under $300 and a years worth of free service. I just got it for me and it is good. |
I'm worried this will be an expensive option--a big monthly fee for a 10 year old who only needs it for emergencies. |
It is $10 a month extra for our famil phone (old iPhone 5). |
| Cheapest Samsung Galaxy model (I don't remember what that is). We're on T-Mobile, which doesn't charge for going over a line's data limit, just moves the kid to 3G. |
| Motophone on tracfone service. Pay as you need, it's about $100/year. When you buy the phone, get the one that triples the minutes paid. Kid uses it to steam music and limiting texting and has never gone over. It's been fine the last 2 years. |
| Older model iphone hand me down. |
| Nexus 5x. We have a no-contract plan with T-Mobile that's $100/mo for 5 lines, unlimited talk/text/data (there is a limit on higher-speed data but then it just drops you down to 3G). |

anyone try or use Ting? wondering about their service - it is pay as you go

Thats what we did. Handed down our old iphones and added them to the family plan. |
That's what we did too. |
| i got a free phone from AT&T gophone line in June. LG Phoenix 3. Great phone. Thereafter we just changed the plan from the $45 to pay as you use. |
