Catholic school uniforms for girls

I am watching 'the keepers' and wonder why girls uniforms featured short skirts despite all thi talk of modesty.

At our school the girls are either wearing skorts, or shorts under skirts.

Because inside those uniforms are just normal kids who want a shred of fashion. Just like parents fight with kids about appropriate clothing (in theory!), school fight the same battle getting kids to comply with hem length.

Catholic school teacher, here (20+ yrs). When i started, girls wore appropriate length skirts, with knee socks or tights. Later on, some girls complained boys would try to look up their skirts, so some girls started wearing shorts underneath (and we instituted skorts)

Then came Brittany Spears & her Catholic school girl video. Girls started rolling up the waist of their skirts & leaving shirt buttons opened. Which led to a new category on detention slips- "Dress code violation"

No, this was going on way before Britney Spears. I know because I did it back in the 80s.

I went to Catholic schools in the 80s and 90s. Girls have been forever hitching up their skirts.

No, this was going on way before Britney Spears. I know because I did it back in the 80s.

Same pleated skirts and knee socks aren't doing anyone any favors. We always wore boxers under our skirts.

And there is a reason for the stereotype of nuns measuring hem length with rulers in the 40s and 50s.
