Disagreeing with a mngt decision for my staff member

Anonymous
A person that works for me is becoming support vs lead on a project. It was never communicated to our team that there was potential for an account to be shifted to someone else. The job is very much about relationship building and the person my staff was working with was a road block in growing the account.

They basically had the new lead contact my staff member to prepare for an upcoming meeting but it was never explicitly communitcated to them a change in leadership was being made.

I don't think a seat change is going to make the difference in this situation. My staff member is 100% capable of doing a great job. The shift is being made because of location and personal background, not skill.

I want to push back because I don't agree with the decision but feel like there really is no point. The new lead is getting handed and account on a silver platter. Personality or location to the company is not going to make the difference. The leadership with the company is more invested and that is what is going to move this forward.

I don't want to come off as not a team player but I think it doesn't set a good precendent that someone can lay the groundwork for a peer to come in and take it over just when you are at the tipping point.
