My DS participates in a very competitive fall sport with practices nearly every day after school. This conflicts with a club that meets once a week he is interested in, so he won't be able to join it fully until November.
Can he join in November? Does it depend on the club? For instance social justice vs academic vs. clubs with major event planning and competitions? Should he try for an excused absence from part of practice on club days? |
| He needs to ask the club. |
| He should be figuring this out. Ask the club. |
| STFU |
This made me laugh, but da hell? did you post in the wrong thread? |
| Laughing here, but I get it OP. Boys aren't always great at figuring this stuff out on their own. Tell him to go talk to the club sponsor. 99.9% of the time it will be fine. |
| Thanks 1402 and 1421. While I was looking more for anecdotes, it may be school-specific. He'll check it out since he's motivated to join the club. |

The sport comes first, unless it's some no-cut pretend sport like crew.
SJW clubs are last. They can't afford to turn anyone away. As for other clubs, it's going to depend. But your kid gets social capital from the sport, not the club. Sometimes, though, things can work out. The basketball players in "High School Musical" is no joke. If you're a really good football or basketball player, and have some talent, the director of the musical might work with you. "Starting QB to star in HS Production of Grease" is a local paper feature that writes itself, and can boost ticket sales and ad revenue for the program. |
| Awesome! 1447 - love the perspective! |
| If someone doesn't show up to my son's crew practice, they might not be able to go out on the water that day. So if your kid signs up for crew, he needs to be there for every practice unless he is sick. |
| my freshman son got cast in the school play and has the same issue. He has contacted the clubs he is interested in-model UN,Debate and Mock Trial and told them he has rehearsals most days after school thru first week of November. They added him to their email list |
