anyone able to do this today successfully? I tried to do this as the newspapers suggested, entered in all my personal data and got this comforting email.
Sigh! |
| They normally charge for that service. They've made it free through November so I guess they've decided to make it non functional since it's no longer a source of revenue. |
|
I first tried to get my free credit report from them and the website crashed and screwed up my entire computer. Today I tried to go to freeze my credit report and I can't even get to the website.
I heard yesterday they were charging $30 to freeze. Is it now free? I saw a lot of tweets giving them grief for charging $30. |
| And tonight none of the three has a functioning website. The TransUnion site says due the Equifax breach they have high volume and can't complete the request. The Experion site just gives an error code and "Sorry". What a mess! |
yes, Equifax was shamed into offering the credit freeze protection for free through November 21 (as they should be, given that it was there mismanagement that has led people to need the protection!) hopefully they can get their website working before then. |
|
apparently none of the credit reporting companies are capable of freezing accounts these days.

| Maybe the whole point of the breach was to create panic. |
They should just do it automatically for everyone. That would be a start to getting back into people's good graces. |
Back into people's good graces???
|
Or to get people to pay to freeze their credit. I know someone who was able to freeze for $10 each at the other 2. So that person paid 20. If everyone does that wow those 2 other credit companies just made bank. |
| People should go to jail over this. It's outrageous. Consumers have NO PROTECTION. The rats are in charge of the cheese. |
If so, they've succeeded. I spent 45 minutes last night that I didn't have to spare trying to freeze my credit at each of the credit reporting agencies, with no luck. The idea of my SSN being out in cyberspace for purchase is scary. |
|
I really don't like that they charge to unfreeze accounts.
It's ridiculous that all these companies are making money storing my data, but I have no access to it and can't even control what they do with it. |
Yes. And it's not like you can opt out. If you have a SSN, you're theirs. We're stuck with whatever turd they decide to hand us. |
Hopefully Congress can put some pressure on them, particularly the ones who profited by short selling Equifax stock, before the breach was publicly announced. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/11/business/equifax-breach-stock-sale.html?mcubz=0 |
