| I notice there are 5 6th grade teams this year. How many students make up the team? And are all the teams made up of all levels of students or do the teams group children with similar abilities together? Is there actual "honors" levels at Deal? If so, for which subjects? Thanks. |
| No honors or levels at Deal outside of math. |
| Only advanced math. Team sizes are generally around 100 kids. It works very well. |
| So there are 500+ kids in 6th grade? Wow. |
| I think there are 550 in 7th, around 500 in 6th. Makes the 450 in 8th look small! |
|
Next year is going to be big!!
The feeder 5th grades are large. |
Plus new kids coming in. How big do you estimate with elementary school kids? |
^^ from the feeders, assuming all go. |
| I would say 600+ kids in 6th next year. (If it's 550 this year and Janney alone is sending 25-30 more kids next year than this year). |
Maybe we should wait until the audit is out and everyone will know for sure. |
| Yes, Janney's 5th grade is about 25-30 bigger than last years. I only know 1 kid who is not planning on attending Deal. The chatter from everyone is that they're going. Last year a handful went elsewhere. |

The 2016-17 4th grade classes at Murch, Janney, Hearst, Lafayette, Bancroft and Shepherd combined had 485 students.
There were 77 4th graders at Eaton. If ALL of them have an older sibling now attending Deal (unlikely) that brings the number up to 562. Now it's possible that 38 new IB 5th graders enrolled since last October, but that's what it would take to get to 600. Source: https://osse.dc.gov/node/1223876 |
I think a number of Janney students didn't go on to Deal last year. |
About 5 total. |
It's usually about the same from Murch, a handful, that don't go to Deal. |
