I'm trying to research some vacation options for my family for next summer. Basically, we want the Outer Banks but in New England. Does anyone have suggestions for anything in Mass or Maine where we could get a beachfront (or close to it) house with a pool? I know that is asking a lot in NE....ideas?
Oh or New Jersey!
Try Nantucket (MA) or Long Beach Island (NJ). A pool in Maine is going to be hard to find - days just stay too cool. You'd probably need to stay at a hotel to have both.
I would agree with this in Cape Cod, too. We go to Falmouth every year and none of the houses that I can think of right on or close to the ocean have pools. For a lot of NE, the season is just too short to have a swimming pool. But you could check vrbo.com or homeaway.com to see...on the Cape I would recommend Falmouth as a destination. Chatham is also nice. |
I grew up on Cape Cod and still have family there. The other poster is spot on - very very few houses have pools. The season is too short. Also unless you are willing to spen 20k+ for a week renting an ocean front mansion with a pool then its unlikely youll find that combo. The real estate in NE tends to be more expensive than in OBX so the lots are smaller/more expensive to buy/rent ocean front there. Why not go back to OBX... NE is charming and beautiful and small towny but all the kids want is beach beach beach.
If you go to Cape Cod - I think Orleans/Eastham/Truro area has more of an Outer Banks feel. More sand dunes and untouched beaches. The rest of the Cape is more touristy and crowded. BeachFRONT will be expensive 8-10K or more per week. Walking distance can be more reasonable. A house on the ocean WITH a pool? Very expensive - probably would have to do a pretty high-end rental.
