13 yo DS and the no good, very bad stank

My son's room SMELLS! He does too sometimes (13 year old hormones, I get it), but for the most part he's good about showering, washing his hair, etc. (especially now he has zits he washes his face all the time!). But his room seems to have developed a permanent funk. I change his sheets once a week, comforter/blanket about every 2. Laundry basket has a lid and he does his laundry every few days. Doesn't usually eat in there. Since it's been so nice I've kept the windows open and fan on but no amount of airing out has gotten rid of the thick, musky funk. I even resorted to fabreeze and a wax melt thingy. It's like it's become a living thing! If you have ideas I'd love to hear them, but more wanted to commiserate with other folks and their stinky sons

Wash the carpet in his room. Carpets hold a lot of smells in, and if his clothing ends up on the carpet....

After you wash his sheets and towels, and comforter, launder them again in "smelly towel cleaner" - I found it at my local ACE Hardware, perhaps you can also Google it. It's a powder to use instead of laundry detergent and it takes out any smell that just doesn't come out well in the wash. My husband's towels end up smelling like wet dog even after the first use if I don't do this every few months.

I think it's the kid. There is a stink in my house too.

I can so relate. It does get better as they get older but man, for a few years it is awful. When I was growing up I could tell how many of my brothers were home by how bad the house smelled.

Yes wash carpet. I have one of the those oil diffuser things in my son's room he loves it. We use lavender.

I would say change sheets and comforter more often too, but I am a clean freak. Don't allow food for sure in his room. I find Gain or Sports Detergent the best for smells.

Carpet-- I hate carpet, I find it really hard to keep clean, we have wood floors in all rooms. But yes, if you have, get it deep cleaned.

How often do you do laundry? I would have him put in a load every other day and he can fold and put away too

Towels-- we change every day and wash every few days.

If he has a trash can in his room, make sure it gets emptied daily. 13 year old boys are notorious for putting all kinds of things in the trash. Also, have you had "the talk" with him? He may have discovered a new hobby.
