Elementary School-Aged Kids
We live in NW DC and our new au pair is a fabulous swimmer. We have access to a pool through Labor Day, but want her to continue with them in the fall. Where can she take them to swim? I'd prefer somewhere in NW DC or close-in MoCo. Also interested in folks with suggestions of DC rec centers with pools. Thanks!
The new Wilson High School rec center pool is gorgeous !!! (and free for DC residents).

Takoma DC Aquatic Center is a 6-7 years old but still in very good shape. Again, free to DC residents.

I have used both the Wilson and Takoma Park centers.
Pros and cons of each: Takoma Park has parking - limited parking for Wilson Wilson may have more total swim space. I like Wilson's children pool more - but it is definitely smaller than Takoma Parks Takoma has other workout facilities available Takoma park has lap swim set up as 1/2 - Wilson right now has it configured as full laps. Right now Wilson is packed - not sure if this is just b/c it is new but I have never seen Takoma Park anywhere near as full as the 4 times I have been to Wilson. |
Lowell School has a nice warm pool, and they have family swim times. Check out their website.
Regarding Takoma and Wilson, are there any open swim times when the au pair can take the kids to the pool and swim with them? Not necessarily laps, but work on their strokes, etc? TIA!
Thanks for the Lowell suggestion.
