Dean of Students at FCPS MS

Anonymous
I've recently noticed that some FCPS middle schools have a "Dean of Students" position. The MS my kids went through did not have this, at least not to my knowledge and there is nothing about it on their website. Anyone know what this position is for/how it is decided which schools have it and which don't?

The Principal gets to decide how to staff her school.

My guess is that it is just a different title for one of the AP's. Or, it could be one of the counselors.

We have a DOS at my FCPS high school. He mainly works on attendance and discipline issues. It's a fairly new position - we've had it for maybe 4 years?

It's likely just a different title. There has always been an AP in charge of discipline and attendance. Sometimes, they also have other duties.

Actually, at my school they added this position. Separate from the APs who used to do it.

Is it someone who is an administrator? Or a resource teacher? Or counselor?

Dean of Students handle discipline and if there is a PBIS program usually implement it. Counselors should not be doing any form of discipline and AP's are now moving towards an academic focus.

So is it another administrator?
