New Orleans Field Trip

Anonymous
Our school does an annual 3 day field trip to New Orleans for seniors. They have some time to bond, do a cruise, do some services projects (habitat for humanity) The trip is scheduled for next Tuesday through Thursday. Aside from the fact the weather report looks miserable - thunderstorms nonstop, I think there are real concerns about cancelled flights, cancelled activities, bored teeneagers stuck in a hotel/airport, and a city with a stressed infrastructure. It just seems like a bad idea, and I wish the school would cancel while there was still time to plan some alternate local activities. Given all this, would you let your senior go if it's not cancelled?

I would probably cancel. The weather report does not look good. Even if they got there okay, they'll be stuck indoors because of the rain. Can you find out if they are thinking of cancelling it and when they will make an announcement? If not, that seems dumb of the school and I would make an executive decision.

We got a very brief email that they were keeping an eye on situation and to make sure our kids packed a raincoat. It also mentioned that they don't need ID for the airport, which, considering many are older than 18, doesn't exactly inspire confidence! No word on when the final decision will be made.
