I know I can't wear skinny jeans

Anonymous
So the skinny jeans thread made me slightly jealous, because I know for a fact that given my pear shape and shortness combined, skinny jeans are way, WAY out for me. That said, where do others who carry weight in their hips and thighs buy jeans/pants? I've found some at Ann Taylor loft recently (and why I didn't know about that place until 2 months ago, I have no idea), but are there any other stores that have "curvy" jeans? I was so excited to go from an ill-fitting size 12 to an actual flattering size 10 that now I want to go out and buy a whole new pants wardrobe.

Go to the Denim Bar. They are experts on all their jeans and will personally fit you. They have something for everyone.

The Gap sells jeans in petite and curvy sizes. Go there and try on all curvy jeans they have in the store in your size and hopefully something will work for you.

I'm short and pear-shaped too. I have both the Curvy-fit and boot-cut jeans from the Gap, which I really like. I tried on jeans that were recommended at Denim Bar once (not the super-expensive ones, because I'm not meant to wear $300 jeans), but I didn't love them more than the Gap ones, so I didn't buy them. The Hudsons were the best I tried on there though. I wanted to try on Paige's but they didn't have my size in stock that day, but they are supposedly good for mommy figures.

I carry my weight in my hips/butt/thighs and I like Lucky Brand jeans. the prices actually seem to have dropped since I bought mine for $138 - the Pentagon City store had "Sweet & Low" bootcut jeans under $100.

don't be afraid of low-rise jeans - they are the friend of the hippy woman. You just have to wear your shirts long enough to tuck in or blouse over them, and maybe buy a cute belt. (the Lucky stores have those too.)

I've also found cute trouser-cut jeans at Banana Republic - they've got a nice flare to the leg that balances out the hips.

I've also heard good things about the Paige jeans, but have never been able to try them on. Maybe that'll be my splurge this fall.

Thanks for the responses! I'm afraid to try Denim Bar after someone told me that they basically ignored her because she's larger than a size 4 (and I am WELL larger than a size 4). I had no idea that Gap had curvy jeans, because after a huge debacle several years ago, involving trying on a size 16 that didn't fit over my thighs, I never went back. But I will give them another go!

I don't like really low-rise jeans because whenever I bend down to pick up a kid (which is a lot right now), I feel like the shirt goes up and the jeans go down. I probably should invest in a belt or 2.

I have had occasional luck with Banana Republic (petite 'cause I'm short and usually more stocky than curvy) jeans. One key for me is limiting pockets, but BR jeans are not always helpful in this department. Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor sometimes carry Kenneth Cole jeans I like better.

I'm larger than a size 4 (size 6, bordering on 8) and I wasn't ignored at Denim Bar. The problem I had was that they didn't seem to have many pairs of jeans in my size! there were hundreds of pairs of size 26. seriously, how many non-teenagers are size 26? (and how many teenagers can afford $200+ jeans?) Nordstrom sometimes has premium jeans like Rock & Republic or Paige, but each store doesn't necessarily have a great selection, and the brands carried seem to vary by store branch.

i wear my low-riders so they're snug on the hip, and I have a couple of longer, wider belts that fit around my hips. then there's no gap in the back. i'm ok with my stomach, though, so I don't worry about gaps in the front. (My stomach's great; I gain my weight below that!)
