My child's school doesn't start until Sept. 15. I think that is really late? Is it just me or do you feel the same way????

i couldn't agree with you more. my son's camp ended on july 31st and no school until september 14th. what are working parents supposed to do? we did 2 weeks vacation, now have a hodgepodge of babysitters, my mom, some half days, etc.

I am thinking of going back to work (changing fields, too).
I have often wondered how on earth working parents care for their preschoolers during the summer... full day camps seem so intense and tiring (not to say expensive) for say, barely potty-trained 3 year-olds. To parents who experienced this, did this present particular difficulties compared to the rest of the school year? Thank you.

That is when my son starts too. I am a SAHM and it wasn't until the 2nd week of August that I started looking at the calendar. But when it starts, I will be one happy camper!

i don't think camps are more tiring than regular preschool. and i was thankful my son's school ran a camp so it was an easy transition. so just depends if your child is ready for school/camp. mine had a tough time with full day at 2.5 but was ok by the time he was 3. what i think is hard over the summer is the break between many camps and the start of school. alot of working parents have their children at year round daycare/preschools so they often only have a week off in the summer.

School is NOT a babysitting service.

And yes, I work.

Yes, I agree. If you need FT care b/c you work, look for a daycare center that has a preschool. Don't expect a preschool that follows the public school calendar to accommodate your needs.

I know it is hard for working parents and it just gets harder.
