Naps for K in MCPS?

Anonymous
Do the kindergarteners take naps in Montgomery County schools? If not, what time does/did your child go to bed and wake up in order to make it thru the day and not be too exhausted if they used to be a regular napper?

TIA.

No naps. My child wasn't a napper so the transition was fine for us.

My kid stopped napping at 2 . . . sad.

Usually 10-12 hours of sleep is the norm for this age.

I had a son in MCPS kindergarten last year. They definitely don't have a nap time. They have 30 min lunch and 30 min recess (at our school it was from 11-12--this may vary). At the end of the day, they have free play time for around 30 minutes. The rest of the day is very structured and academic. They're often tired and cranky when they get home at the end of the day and need a chance to decompress, though I found that the stamina really increased throughout the school year. My son stopped napping at age 3 so, fortunately, that didn't pose a problem for us. Typical bedtime was around 7:30 though I found that sometimes my son would fall asleep as early as 6pm if it had been a long week with other extracurricular activities. Typical wake time for him was around 6:30 and the bus came around 8:10 (sometimes I'd drive him to school so that we'd have a little more time at home in the morning---drop off was between 8:30 and 8:45). Hope this helps---I actually found the kindergarten transition to be allot less painful than I was expecting.

We are not in MoCo, but our school had no naps for K either. Our daughter napped every day from 1pm-3pm M-F at her day care until her last day there -- the Friday before school started. She did not nap at home on weekends. We had a very early bedtime to compensate -- in bed lights out 7pm. She was typically asleep by 7:15/20. Made evenings a challenge, but we managed and she was fine.
