I just started this week and I'm liking it so far.
Keir Gilchrist (Marshall from United States of Tara) plays a non-neurotypical person quite well. It also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rapaport. I grew up with a NNT cousin, so it's been interesting making the comparisons. Keir's character, Sam, only likes being touched if touched hard, for example, which is exactly the same for my cousin. Hugs = no. Bear hugs = yes. The character Sam is also very fixated and knowledgeable about Antarctica and Antarctic animals and compares people and situations to those things, which is pretty funny so far. |
| I really want to like it, but it's making it hard. Sometimes it's great and fun. But some of it is /so/ heavy handed. |
| I'm enjoying it, but I agree it's heavy handed. I'm stuck on the fact that they have a nice big house, with one parent working as an EMT, one a SAHM, and enough money left over to pay for tons of therapy. |
I enjoyed it as fairly mindless entertainment. In the scheme of Hollywood exaggeration, their house didn't bother me, especially as it would be more realistic in a lower COL area, and I don't remember them identifying where it supposedly took place. |
I have only watched 2 so fare bit it is funny how being from DC I find myself hung up on real estate disbelief. |
Well, the therapists license plate was from Connecticut. |
