We have a one year old boy and are looking to buy a house in Arlington, Mclean or Falls Church. We have been looking at some in Country Club Hills- some of the smaller homes. I haven't seen many little kids in CCH when we come through. Are there kids with young families living there? We love the area but are looking for a home in a neighborhood with young kids yet would be where we would like to stay for a long time.
Thank you. |
| I know two people who live in Country Club Hills - one has a 4 year old and one has a 4 year old, 2 year old, and is pregnant with her 3rd. So, yes there are young kids living there. In general, most parts of N. Arlington (and probably South, too) are filled with young kids. But I don't know if just by looking at houses if you would necessarily know that - much of the kid stuff is confined to back yards. And I think CCH might be a little less walkable than some other neighborhoods (those hills you know!), so you might not see as many people out and about as you would in other parts of Arlington. However, one of the best things about Arlington are the tons of parks and playgrounds nearby and they are always filled with kids - there would be a lot of those within 5-10 minutes of CCH. |
I know two families who live there. One currently has young kids and the other moved there when they had young kids, but they're mostly grown now. The neighborhood's kind of expensive - maybe the young families are still in their "starter" homes elsewhere? (or maybe the bulk of parents work, so the kids have been in daycare/preschool when you drove through?) It's a nice neighborhood, though, and feeds into good schools. Good luck, whatever you decide!

| OP here- thank you for your input. I like what I see so far but just was concerned- Arlington is feeling overwhelming in chosing where to be- spend around 1.1 or 1.2 and be near families/kids with good schools. Thanky you again. |

I grew up in that area, when it wasn't so prohibitively expensive. There used to be lots of families with SAHMs but don't know that there are many families who can afford the mortgages on one salary anymore. The nearest Starbucks is Nanny-Central. Some of the parents of my friends growing up are still living there, but I don't know anyone my age (mid-30s) moving in there.
Falls Church City is a little cheaper, has a stellar school system and has a ton of kids, great library, cool ethnic restaurants and lots of places within easy walking distance. Having lived in both places, I prefer it! |
OP, I don't quite get this...do you mean you are looking to spend 1.1 to 1.2 million and find a place that is family friendly and has good schools? With that budget you could easily find a great house in many great neighborhoods with great schools - pretty much all of N. Arlington would have something in that range. Friends of ours just moved into a place in Lee Heights for a little over 1.2 million...and a house on our street in Waverly Hills is under contract for just over 1.2 million. Both places have 5 BRs, 4 baths, and are brand new. Great neighborhoods filled with kids and great schools. Maybe CCH is more expensive than that, but there are many other great neighborhoods that would fit that budget. |
