Recommend family-friendly Carribbean location

We had planned to take our 6 mo. old to Turks and Caicos in the winter but, with the recent turmoil (the British government suspended the government amid corruption allegations -- http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/08/15/turk.caicos.uk/index.html ), we need to find a new spot. We've been to the DR, Nevis, Bahamas and St. Lucia and would like to try someplace new. Does anyone have any recommendations, both in terms of islands and resorts, that could point in the right direction? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would still go to Turks and Caicos. The British have restored order.
You should carry on as normal.

Even if there is a bit of confusion in T&C, the island will still be more orderly than the DR or Bahamas. The US has not suggested suspending leisure travel to T&C and this story is really not all that new. The PM has been under investigation for some time. If you don't go, you are really missing out on a fabulous vacation. The country is beautiful and the people are great

St. John. The Westin Resort is kid-friendly. We've been to the island several times and tried all sorts of things, including renting houses and condos, but the Westin was by far the easiest thing we've done with kids. We kept avoiding it because we think of ourselves as NOT big resort people, but two small kids changes everything!

Aruba- super family friendly and convenient to everything. The weather is fabulous pretty much all year long.

Grand Cayman is great for families. Very safe -- you can rent a car and drive around the island so you won't be stuck eating costly hotel food 24/7. Lots of small cafes and reasonably priced restaurants. Hotel staff directed us to local playgrounds. Beautiful beaches. Lots of options for hotels or condos in various price ranges.

The Westin on St. John is nice too --- but the island is so small and there's not much to do. On Grand Cayman, you'll have more options in terms of entertaining kids off the beach.

Agree with the Aruba suggestion. The weather is really good there, few if any bugs, and totally safe. The people are really friendly and there are some good kid-friendly resorts (We stayed at La Cabana, and they had a lot of kid stuff). It was also easy to take the kids out and about there.

We've been to Bonaire twice with our 4 month old DD and back again with her at 1 year. Belafonte Hotel is great for family. Parents must love snorkeling, diving or birding because that's really all there is to do.

Idle-a-While Negril Jamaica - very small resort. Great for families with small children as water is beautiful, clear, no waves. There is some minor nudity and other things but small kids don't notice. Very friendly towards children and you can walk on the beach to restaurants.
