Excited and afraid now that I am TTC

Anonymous
DH and I spent a long time trying to avoid pregnancy, and two months ago, for the first time we started trying to achieve it. I used to feel like any little indiscretion would certainly result in a BFP and now I am afraid it won't ever happen! Of course it is not logical.. but anyone else feel this way?

I think it's normal. Every time we had sex I wondered "hm..did we do it this time?" and then counted the days until I either got my period or bought a test. Relax and have fun with the process of trying to get pregnant.

Totally normal. The first time we had unprotected sex, I was certain I was pregnant. Had to be, right? Boy was I surprised when the test was negative. Then when it didn't happen that month, or the next month, or the next, I started to get really discouraged and think it would never happen. Alas, it finally did! In retrospect, four cycles is not that long to try, but when I was in the middle of it, it seemed like an eternity. Anyway - you are definitely not alone. Good luck!

Good luck! If you start to get impatient, you can always start taking your temperature or using ovulation predictor kits to try to time things better. My advice is to stay away from home pregnancy tests until AFTER your period is due. Otherwise you may end up driving yourself crazy...

I was one of the impatient ones as well, (plus, I tend to get OBSESSED with stuff and count not stop the "am i, am I not?" impatience). The ovulation tests worked like magic for us.

The ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor is great, but expensive (but you can use health care flexible spending account money to pay for it). It tells you exactly when you are most fertile and it is all electronic, so you don't have to try to decipher lines. I bought one on Amazon with a pack of sticks for significantly less than the full retail price. Unfortunately it didn't do the trick for me b/c we have other issues that we discovered later in the process, but I would highly recommend it nonetheless. Good luck!
