Anyone try the "dark buses"?

I read about this a few days ago - lots of folks picking up rides in vans for $1 a ride instead of going on the subways. Some licensed and others not at all.

Anyone have experience of this? Did you feel safe?

I don't know about what you're talking about in particular, but I take Via a lot and love it.

I did a tour in NYC and the tour guide took us on one of these. For $1 each we all traveled from Manhattan to Queens, which seems like a pretty good deal. It helps if you speak Mandarin and don't particularly care when you get dropped off in relation to other people.

I took one along Flatbush Ave a few weeks ago (my first time). It was perfect and saved me a ton of time on my trip home. Easy to hail, very comfortable.
