Can anyone share their experience with South Riding Learning Center? |
I was an employee there for a few years. It is a good job, but a TERRIBLE place for a career. And it shows on the staff. The director is a nice lady who cares for students and staff. But she has a hard time standing up to the parents.
And while there are many nice parents, as a community they are a terrible group. The director was allowing online sessions during Covid-19 until the parents began pressuring the director to stop the online sessions. The parents insist upon keeping the Center open, even during snow days. They are frequently rude to staff and tutors, which is one reason why turnover is high there. Speaking of turnover, each year the director has to hire new staff because the previous ones keep leaving. Very few tutors remain there for longer than one year. I have seen staff quit after only a few days on the job. As for raises and bonuses, forget it. The director gives a "holiday bonus" each winter. The bonus is a $50-$100 gift card. No raises. No bonuses. And the hourly pay is $25 per hour, which is lower than industry standards. The $25 is paid, even for advanced subjects such like physics and calculus, which usually fetches at least $35 to $40 per hour. She only has ONE tutor who can tutor physics and computer science who has been there for at least 10 years. But he only works once a week, on Saturdays. If your student needs help on a weekday in these subjects, tough. As for the curriculum, it's a great place for students between kindergarten to ninth grade and for high school SAT students. But she only has TWO tutors who can teach advanced high school mathematics. And one of them only works on Saturdays while the other has limited availability. TLDR; great place for young children. Good short term job for extra money. Bad place for long-term work. Horrible parents. |
