| Our school doesn't, and I'm curious if that's an mcps thing or an individual school decision. |
| There were several threads about this in June. Do a search. |
| Ours did. W feeder. |
| When I taught in MS that were down county, there was a mindset that the 8th grade dance and promotion should be played down because it was being elevated in prestige and pomp to the level of HS graduation and senior prom. We saw boys in tuxes and girls in evening gowns, families arriving in limos, even extended family coming from out of state. Too many of these same kids either failed out or got pregnant by the end of 10th grade. It was ridiculous. The thought was to make 8th grade promotion less of a big deal. |
| TPMS has but CJMS not |
| Most W schools do, while the other, lesser MSs, don't. |
Why are you trolling at 8:58 am on a Monday morning? |
|
They do and I wish they didn't. It is a wasted instructional day for students and teachers.
- 8th grade parent. |
Long time down county parent calling BS on this. |
NP here, and I'm not so quick to dismiss...mainly because I worked in a preschool in DC where parents went all out for graduation, had a prom, etc. |
Our downcounty, non-W MS has one. I thought from the June discussions that W schools were above such nonsense as MS promotion ceremonies. Get your stories straight about how superior you are. |
| What are W schools? |
Schools in Bethesda or Potomac that have a high proportion of wealthy students and white students. The W stands for wealthy/white. |
They also tend to be in the western end of the county. |
Oh! PP! Thank you! That's a perfect solution. I was getting tired of saying Bethesda/Potomac -- plus then people would complain and say, what about North Bethesda, what about North Potomac, what about Rockville? W = western/wealthy/white. Beautiful. |
