I know Woodson is supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but worried about its high-pressure reputation. West Springfield, Lake Braddock and Robinson all do well on their GS ratings -- do students seem happier, less-stressed at these schools than a Woodson or a McLean high?
Our kids are very young so things may have changed by the time they're in high school but wondering if one of these schools may be a happy medium. We're selling our house (zoned for West Potomac) and feel like while we're happy here, we take the opportunity to pick a new home in area with more highly rated high school. |
West Springfield is an amazing school.
Somehow they have managed to create high achievement in a low pressure environment. It is the best of the three in my opinion. Woodson woukd not even be on my list. LB and Robinson are fine from what I have heard. |
Friends who have had kids attend both LB and WS have all preferred Lake Braddock. Robinson families seem to be really happy as well. Ours went to Lake Braddock and loved the secondary model. |
How do you expect people to know unless they've had kids at all these schools? All you're going to get is people touting these three schools. |
Low performers and betas avoid McLean and woodson.
The suicide problem is at woodson probably because it's not the #1 |
We have had kids at two of the schools and would avoid Woodson. |
Interesting phrasing. So you had kids at Lake Braddock and Robinson? |
Re: Robinson I think consider if you like the IB program.
|
My friends with kids at Robinson are really happy there, and the neighborhoods around it are pretty nice. I hear good things about West Springfield, too. |
These are all good schools in very family friendly communities. You really can't go wrong.
|
Yes, I think they are all good. Just pick the best commute, price, house. |
West Springfield. LB and Robinson are way too big. |
We are happy at Woodson. |
Our experience was that more parents felt that way than the actual kids did. The kids loved knowing that there was something for everyone. Ours loved being in a secondary school and the transition to 9th was much easier than for some of their friends at traditional high schools. |
This was our experience as well. We have two kids, one at LB, and one at Robinson, and both agree that they liked the secondary school model. |
