I got 20 lbs white rice and 20lbs pinto beans. Will cumin and chili powder be enough? |
Go to your local LDS Bishop. Check LDS Meetinghouse Locator by entering your address. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/maps/meetinghouses/@39.047602,-77.251370,12 The website will tell you which building and the name and email address of your local Bishop. Bishops can help out anyone with a food order to our "Bishop's Storehouse." Yes, there are many carbohydrates, but you will be able to get fresh produce, etc. You do not have to be a member to receive a food order. |
Bear is really gross. It’s greasy and the meat has a strong unpleasant flavor and smell. Goose is really delicious. But either way, as a fellow animal, I have just as much right to eat another animal to survive as that bear does. |
Sounds tasty. *whispers* Make sure you have some salt
|
The food banks also have beans and other sources of protein like tuna that even your diabetic kid can eat. You may have to cobble together several sources, including the dollar store. |
Toilet paper stockpiles will also come in handy. |
And Beano, to avoid the other *whispers* |

I went to Costco- it was packed. Bought a couple of cases of water, big bag of frozen veggies, big pack of hamburger (divided up and froze), sausage (froze), canned tuna, power bars, peanut butter, and a few more things. These are all things we will eat over time if we don't need it for emergency.

I knew I forgot something!

Yes please buy things you will eat, or else donate them before the expiration date. At the food donation drives I work there are always tons of cans of cheap corn and green beans that are expired; I assume they were someone's emergency stock that they were replenishing. I know canned food technically lasts forever, but a little planning and you could donate it before the date on the can. |
| Back to the topic at hand, there are 3 confirmed cases in Montgomery County now. |
That’s not the topic. Food and stockpiling are the topic. |
Stockpile now because it is here. A few years back, DH and I were first dating and I made a 12 AM grocery run when I heard the forecast. The next day when he went at 12 noon, everything was already picked over. Or depleted. I ended up giving him some of my stash. |

The best lesson for the Coronavirus prepardness situation
This is to all those who are still debating if they should prepare... Also great story for the kids who might be asking you questions why in heaven do we need all of the sudden a pyramid of toilet paper, it is not even Halloween...
The Ant and the Grasshopper One summer’s day, in a field, a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great effort an ear of corn he was taking to his nest. "Why don’t you come and chat with me," asked the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling your life away?" "I am helping to store up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and I recommend you to do the same." "Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper. "We have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When winter came, the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing, every day, corn and grain from the stores they had collected in summer. Then the Grasshopper knew... MORAL: WORK TODAY AND YOU CAN REAP THE BENEFITS TOMORROW! If you remember from your childhood..full and beautiful story here.. and below, the animated version for kids or yourself if you feel young..
