Thanks. It is nice to see what other schools are doing with technology in the classroom. I think many schools are adopting a 1:1 approach in the classroom, similar to DCI; however, I feel DCI has not explained their approach at all (compare Holy Trinity detailed outline of tech program -http://htsdc.org/academics/technology/). And there appears to be a lack of balance in their program. Segment on Science Friday doesn't say get rid of phones or devices but talks about using devices in a thoughtful way.

sorry, here is link

Clearly, then, you've never been to an info session or one of the technology nights where it is explained in detail??
|
| I'm at a feeder and I've been to an info session. What is technology night? Is it just for current parents? What did you learn? |
| No, I haven't. Also haven't been to Holy Trinity but everything is explained nicely on their website. Given how much interest their is in the topic, I am surprised their isn't more detail provided. I did attend an Open house and there wasn't much information provided. And other parents have expressed concern on this site about how technology is used. Please share any information you know about how technology is used, including the differences between grades. |
I read their approach and they use a lot more technology than DCI or the feeder my son went to. Wow. |
You should go to holy trinity then. And while you're there, learn the difference between "their " and "there".

what the heck is up with these "DCI way or the highway" comments? With the lack of good middle and high school options in this city, the highway isn't an option for a lot of parents who, for very legitimate reason,s are concerned about a possible overreliance on technology at their feeder highschool.
I was at a new school and cherish the way they actually adjusted for parent concerns - they never acted like they had it all figured out and we should just accept it or bail. I hope this is just mean booster DCI parents and not the attitude of DCI. |
PP - I'd suggest you call and ask for a brief meeting with a member of the administration. You will get a much better sense of things than on DCUM. |
| It's not so much "my way or the highway" as it is "We are there. It works great for us. You are not there. Please don't try to change it." |
| +100000!!!!!!! |
Yes, I've noticed this too. The DCI parents on here tend to be a hyper defensive, touchy group. |
I'm not PP, but I have been to DCI info nights (twice) and they did NOT "explain their approach in detail". What details are you referring to that you felt were so clear? |
+1 |
| I've been to one and I was able to understand it. |
