Pasta for dinner

Pasta once in a while is fine, but pasta daily for multiple meals creates fat kids and fatter adults... maybe there is some mitigation if they are in active sports, but that's just kicking the can... not having your kids learn to eat properly nutritious food at an early age is setting them up for "body positivity" as a 300lb+ adult... And even if you are already older and fat, why not set your kids up for a a healthier lifestyle ?

Define "multiple meals"? A day, a week?

I mean portion control and moderation? I'm a almost 40 woman with a BMI that's nowhere close to overweight, same with my husband and kids and we eat pasta. I even make pasta. I also sometimes make cheesecake.

Teaching your kid that eating healthy means you never eat carbs or sugar is just setting them up for failure. Teaching balance and moderation is far healthier.

Have you ever heard of portion control?

Italians eat pasta nearly every day.

If there is any topic that can make DCUM explode, it's the politics of what people feed kids. So many opinions, many snarky comments and insults.

Asians have rice with their dinners most days. They are thin for the most part. Rice is similar to pasta.

True. But Asians also tend to eat lots of protein, beans, produce along with the rice. South Asians usually also have lentils/beans, produce and meat with their rice. So, a balanced diet has carbs, protein, veggies, fat etc.

i cannot imagine saying this to someone who is hosting me....regardless of what was being served. That is weird behavior on her part.

I went to a lunch playdate once where the host served us all chocolate chip pancakes for lunch- no protein or fruit. It wouldnt have been my first choice but I obviously just said "Thanks!" and enjoyed my time at her home. DUH.

+1 my family of four—two parents, one very active teen, and one not-so-active teen—eats pasta at least 4-5 nights a week. And dessert, too. Nobody’s overweight.

I grew up in a household with a “don’t eat that, it’ll make you fat” mentality and it just kind of made me obsessed with food in a bad way. Took me years to shake it off, and I slimmed down quite a bit without even trying once I moved away from home.

One single meal served at a playdate depicts how a person's entire life is? It was one meal. Eat it and move on. The hysteria on this thread is insane.

They are so proud of not being one of the poors despite having grown up with what they now regard as poverty foods. In a few years they can switch obsessive thoughts to curating their tweens' CVs.

So it’s not a completely normal meal? It’s a rare unhealthy indulgence?

I was super hungry from Spin this morning and basically ate a bunch of popcorn for lunch so...

Very well then, I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes.

It is a completely normal meal to me, also raised Italian, and does not mean whatsoever that the OP does not eat protein, vegetables, fruit, or a balanced diet.

The only conclusion I draw from your comment is you are oddly judgmental and I would not like you personally.
