Were you this out of breath first trimester??

Hi All,

So I normally walk my dog to and from work. It's just under 2.5 miles each way and we go at a leisurely pace (it takes about an hour to get to work). That said, I have never done it in this heat before. I got the dog in March and this is our first summer together. And of course, I'm 12 weeks pregnant, which makes everything so not easier. Before the pregnancy, I ran this. Now I walk it because the running was too much with the heat.

Today walking the dog to work - we left around 8:20 - it was hot but with a slight breeze. I started to overheat though and sweat a lot. Then I started to get out of breath a lot. I ended up taking several breaks and leaning on my knees. This freaked me out, but I wasn't sure if it's normal because of the pregnancy. I also have a heart condition but it has always been asymptomatic (a lifelong congenital defect causing no problems) so I'm a little scared about that too. The doctor said I should be fine, but I wanted to check in and see if other women were experiencing similar things as me.

Any thoughts welcome. I have an appointment for a heart check up the first week of September, but if this seems abnormal, I might bump it up.

Yes, it happened both pregnancies. Totally normal Stay really hydrated and make sure you're eating enough, esp. iron.

OP here. That's great to hear. I definitely didn't have water with me and I should have. I'm relieved that others experienced this.

Yup, I am only 8 weeks and sometimes find myself short of breath from conversation alone!

You may want to check your iron level. It can be a sign of anemia but mostly it's just the increase in the hormone progesterone as well as the uterus squishing the diaphragm.

yup, at the gym in first tri, starting aroud 8 weeks, found myself way out of breath on the elliptical at a pace that had been easy before. Second trimester seems to be better in terms of cardio (or maybe my expectations are lowered)--but on the other hand I've been super sensitive to heat since day 1....and feel badly for all the super preggo women right now dealing with the heat. drink a ton of water, and just take it easy. I've relegated myself to exercising indoors when its too hot or humid.

Yes, I am having similar problems. I am 10 weeks and if I walk up a couple of flights of stairs I find myself out of breath. This is a new experience to me. I hope it goes away soon for all of us!
