My towels stink

Anonymous
Even after I wash and dry them, my towels smell...musty, I guess.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Try adding vinegar to your wash cycle - 1 cup of white vinegar.

If that doesn't work, try Borax.

Try drying them out in the sun.

You can also do this between washes after they are used to make sure they dry.

In this season, towels never really dry and develop bacteria that stink. Instead of putting them away, spread them out after each use so they really dry (in the sun, or have A/C quite high). Look forward to dry weather!

this came up on a previous thread. the stink and the greyish tint of color on white towels.

i tried the vinegar suggestion and i think it really helped with the smell.

Does this work for other clothes, too? My husband goes through tons of workout clothes a week. We don't put all the tech gear in the dryer since it ruins the technical/wicking elements. But earlier this year we switched from high-powered detergents to ones that are dye/perfume free and now his workout gear all smells musty and kind of rank even after it's been washed.

do you have a front loader machine? if so, you need to clean the rubber gasket and let the door stay open when no in use.

Don't use dryer sheets either - they suck whatever it is in towels that help them actually dry you and so they are not resistant to moisture, and the moisture gets in and they start getting musty/damp/mildewy.
