Are you able to watch the school board meeting live? Doesn't work??

I've watched them many times before by clicking on the link -- on fcps.edu. But, now it says that the format isn't supported. I'm running Windows 10. Haven't changed anything. I don't understand. Can anyone help me?

Doesn't look like we will get a decision today. Looks like they are going to delay yet again.

A decision regarding what?

The school name change?
Did they talk about restoring Bachelor steps on the teacher salary scale?

Lessons about the background behind the name of the school? That's a 2-minute lesson in some places. Think about school names like West Springfield or South County.

What's In a Name? They are suggesting using these videos to educate students about the names of their schools. This video about Hunt Valley ES doesn't really even speak to the name of the school. Most of it is about the Sydenstricker School. It does mention fox hunting. Bring on the animal rights activists.

Just now getting to budget.

But, they voted for the name change--no delay. Close vote--I think 6-5. They clearly did not follow protocol and this may come back to bite them. Some are worried about that. Evans handled this whole thing very poorly from the beginning of the process. She changed the rules throughout the process

If you are a teacher, I wouldn't expect much. They just opened a can of worms that could lead to other name changes costing millions and millions.

Total lack of foresight.

I know. This is so dumb! They don't even seem to realize it. Plus, for the names they are already concerned about -- now the kids are going to be taught that their school is named after an offensive person. Why do we need to even go there? If the kids at Mosby Woods or wherever don't know who Mosby is... why do we need to tell them he was a confederate soldier supporting slavery? How is that going to make elementary kids feel? They would be better off just not knowing anything about Mosby. And for kids at Hayfield, South County, Herndon, West Springfield, West Potomac, Oakton, Oakton ES... this is just dumb. Dingy D-Kaufax thinks this should be taught EVERY YEAR???? I really wonder how much thought they put into this. Does she think of anything beyond her own child's experience -- beyond the walls of Edison? They haven't considered how this translates across the whole county.

And to the PP -- they did vote to change the name of Stuart -- but the community will have to bicker that one out to get a new name.

The producer Bruce Cohen (a grad) said he would volunteer to lead a fundraiser--but, apparently only if he approves of the new name.......

I understand the issue, but money is tight and look at what they have done to this community.

Do these people ever think of "unintended consequences" before they start something?

As for learning about the names, I do think South County should be a fun one. There used to be a sign on a house just down from Lorton prison--it said "Prison View"--now that would have been a great name!

I need to go look and see the "What'sin a name" on that one.

I think Westfield was named after an office park. It was actually called West County until shortly before it opened.
Do these people think of anything before they act? Did this really merit a motion?

Mosby was actually outspoken against secession prior to the war. Will we teach that Mosby became a Republican and worked as an attorney and supported U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant? He also served as the American consul to Hong Kong and in the U.S. Department of Justice. Will that be included?

Nah---just watch the old TV series (really, really old)--The Gray Ghost. Then, we can go through this fun process again. And, again. And, again.

Haha. Was it McLaughlin who complained that some students say all they do in history class is watch videos?
