How was/is GW for high risk pregnancies and deliveries?

Anonymous
I'm at high risk for pre-e. Thinking about going with Susan Bathgate to manage my pregnancy. What are your thoughts, DCUM?

I was with the midwives when I developed high bp along with gd. They transferred me to Dr. Bathgate and I realy liked her competent, reassuring, no-nonsense attitude. When I was admitted at 33 weeks for severe pre-e, Dr. Larsen took over and I delivered at 34 weeks.

GW and Dr. Bathgate took very good care of me.

I have a high risk pregnancy and was transferred to Dr Bathgate. She was excellent, pretty happy with the care I got. I still see her.

OP here. PP, thanks for your input. I was with WHC midwives for my first pregnancy b/c I was hoping for an intervention free hippie birth. Ha! Did you baby have to go to NICU at GW? What was your after birth experience like?

If I had pregnancy risks there is nowhere I'd rather be than GW. The postpartum care is not the cushiest. But the OB, Delivery, NICU, etc. are absolutely top notch and trend toward an excellent balance of nonintervention and safety, informed by the latest science.

High risk because I was AMA. I hate GW -- had to have emergency surgery as a result of their carelessness. Beware! If you do go the GW route, I highly recommend hiring a third party doula to advocate for you.

Can you tell me more, PP?

Delivered at GW a year ago and agree 110%. Dr. Macri was my high risk OB and was delivered by Dr. Keller. The L&D nurses were beyond amazing. PP is spot on that their post-delivery recovery ward leaves some to be desired. I'd deliver there again in a heartbeat.

I had a normal pregnancy but ended up having a scary delivery. Staff at GW was absolutely fantastic. Recovery rooms are a little dated (felt like a dorm room) but medical care was outstanding.

I used Bathgste for a high risk pregnancy. Delivered early anyway and my baby was in the nicu where they received excellent care. I was happy with bathgate but she never even checked on me after I delivered at 29 weeks. Expected at least a phone call. When I delivered my first early, I received repeated visits from the midwives, including to check in my baby in the nicu.

+100. My high risk labor was taken VERY seriously by the nurses and doctors, but they still gave me the agency in my birth that I desperately wanted. I didn't get the hippy unmedicated situation I was hoping for, but I know that every choice was made respecting my wishes and weighing risks realistically.

Also Bathgate is great!

I started with Dr. Bathgate (previous abdominal surgery + AMA + IVF at GW). So far she's been great- reassuring (she thinks I can do a natural birth if that's what I decide) while also providing me a consult with a surgeon in case of a complication. When she's in the room with you, she's really there. Everything is unrushed and she patiently answers all the questions I can think of.

Bathhate is great. Macri was good too. Don't see Gallagher. He glossed over my concerns and missed major problems during my high-risknoregnancy.

All the OBs are great. The issue is when you have to deliver and it seems like only residents are there. There were a lot of things wrong but just one example was each of them literally lined up to do a cervical exam. I understand it's a teaching hospital but NOOOOOO!

At GW, if you are high-risk and need a c-section or other invasive procedure, is it performed by the OB or by a resident?
