Natural History IMAX closing. Sad.

Gotta make more room for junk food for middle America. Pretty stupid but then again when you dont think global warming is real why do you need films about nature?

Ooh, this makes me mad.
My guess is the profit is not enough to justify keeping it open. Nevertheless, it should stay open and continue the wonderfully unique way it shows film.
I grew up watching IMAX films about nature there!

What does middle America have anything to do with it...

Oh, you know. Gotta find a way to blame this on non-liberals. Typical.

Oh for Pete's Sake. The attendance rate at that IMAX is abysmal. Most shows play to almost empty theaters. Meanwhile lines for the cafeteria snake way out the door. The museum is making a decision to best utilize their space - not everything is a conspiracy.

Why should we? The theater was rarely full or showing anything in demand. It hardly ever booked really sought-after specialty films or documentaries. Everything memorable goes to the IMAX at Air and Space.

The Natural History Museum and its programming are a vital part of our public educational resources. The institution needs to focus on its mission to promote education and understanding of our natural world and not more over priced food. What demand films were you hoping to see?

I am fine with them closing it. Who wants to watch a movie when at a museum. Make more hands on learning, put the movies on Netflix.

Trump wouldn't want kids to learn anything about science. The kids need to stay stupid so they can grow up and vote for one of Trump's kids.

The theaters provide funding back to the museum so that you can enjoy more of the hands on learning in the free museum. Government funding doesn't cover everything the museum needs to operate.

I am ok with this closing.

There will still be an IMAX theater in the Air and Space Museum, though, so not like it's disappearing from the mall altogether, right? My kids are more interested in exhibits than movies, and IMAX is too much for my youngest. I am not sad they are expanding the exhibition areas, and that cafeteria gets busy so not surprised some of it will go to expanded cafeteria as well.

I guarantee if the IMAX theater actually made money for the museum, they would not be closing it!
