Jefferson Academy renovation?

Anonymous
Has anyone heard anything about what the scope of the project is going to be or when it's going to get started? I'd heard hvac and bathroom renovation were the most urgent repairs but was wondering if it'd get any of the bells and whistles we've seen in some of the other DCPS renovations.

I certainly hope so that building is disgusting.

As much as a renovation is needed to get this building on par with educational standards and practices, no, the current building is not "disgusting". Yes, it's dated and definitely has issues and needs systems upgrades and all; but it's clean and well-kept. "Disgusting" is different.

Here is the latest from the recent parent newsletter:
5. Modernization & Construction Updates
We have several exciting updates related to our building improvements and modernization, all of which are outlined in this letter from the COO of DCPS. Here are the major highlights:
- Construction on our new Science labs will begin this summer. It is likely that this work will stretch into the school year, but we have already made adjustments to accommodate the project. We are hopeful the labs will be completed relatively early in the school year.
- HVAC work in the auditorium and gym is continuing this summer and should be completed soon.
- Work has started to replace all of the exterior doors around the building. Our new doors will be far more inviting and aesthetically pleasing
- Our full-scale modernization has officially been moved UP! It is now scheduled to be completed by the 2020-21 school year, which means planning will begin ASAP! However, we do NOT anticipate any major construction work (other than the labs) to start this upcoming school year.

The DCPS approach has always been to attempt to make a silk purse out of sow's ear.
