Firing a friend

Anonymous
Working on a project as a newer Project Manager. My work friend was assigned to the team. It became apparent that she is not a good fit - unprofessional, combative, tries to do other people's jobs, doesn't do her own, work is sloppy. I'm not happy, teammates pulled me aside as a group to express concern. I had a 1 on 1 with her about "roles and expectations" which was met with rolled eyes.

I've scheduled a meeting with leadership to have her "reassigned". She won't lose her job, she just will not be on a high profile project.

The professional side of the conversation I've got nailed. The personal side is not so clear. I actually enjoy her as a person and open to continuing our friendship as is.

Is it worth trying to preserve the personal side? After conversation- "hey, it's not personal"?

Or lost cause...

Consider the friendship over. She doesn't seem like she'd be the type to rise above and separate a professional relationship from a personal one.
