Help us find a new show/series!

Anonymous
We need a new show to watch! We currently have Netflix and Amazon Prime (we have Apple TV, no cable). My husband and I have very different tastes when it comes to movies/tv shows or series. He typically likes more sci-fi/fantasy or action, whereas I prefer documentaries and "drama". We are able to meet in the middle and enjoy some movies/tv shows together, but it does take a while to find one that suits both of our interests. In the past, we have both really enjoyed these series:
-Parenthood
-Good Wife
-Tudors
-The Wire
-Weeds
-Californication
-Friday Night Lights
-Bloodline
-Nurse Jackie
-Grey's Anatomy

Breaking Bad- then Better Call Saul- give BB about 3-4 episodes to get into it. It's more of a slow burn in the beginning but it is SO good, and now I'm loving the spin-off Better Call Saul

The first few season of Homeland were amazing- you would need a showtime subscription- can get a free trial with Amazon

The miniseries of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell was excellent (better than the book) and is both fantasy and a period piece.

Do you like comedy? Spouse and I are really enjoying Kimmie Schmidt right now; previously enjoyed 30 Rock, Community, and New Girl. Of all of those, New Girl has the least absurdism (if absurdism bothers you).

I have read, but not watched, The Expanse and the book was very good; I've heard the show is also very good.

Spouse and I also enjoy nature documentaries, especially by David Attenborough. There are quite a few in addition to Planet Earth.

Have you seen the Sopranos? I know it's old but if you haven't seen it you might enjoy.

Second the PP suggestion of Six Feet Under.

Justified - one of the only shows my husband and I watched together that wasn't a comedy
Over the years, we also watched Lost, Alias, Covert Affairs and Veronica Mars together, but given your list above, I'm saying Justified is a winner

recently, we have been watching the USA Series Shooter (which I think is premiering season 2 tonight).

PP who said Justified

We also liked Community and 30 Rock. I never could get excited about New Girl (and my husband never watched with me). Another comedy we loved was Raising Hope. SOOO freaking funny!

You could have described me and my husband - this is what we agree upon:

Scandal (so much better than Grey's IMHO)
This is Us (Parenthood 2.0)
Life in Pieces (comic version of Parenthood)
Grace and Frankie
NOT The Crown (husband would not watch that if you paid him)
Wynonna Earp

Wentworth (like OITNB only much more dramatic - I love OITNB so no slight to that show)
Gypsy
Love
Master of None
