Winter swim tryouts-how soon do they let you know?

Anonymous
DD, 9, has done two tryouts but we haven't heard a peep from the clubs. She's going to do two more and we are wondering what to expect going forward. I think nothing means not accepted, right?

I heard from other parents that the tryouts start getting much more competitive at this age and we should have tried to enroll our child last year at age 8. Good to know but not helpful.
DD wants to continue on some kind of team. Any suggestions for teams for the kids who are not that great but just enjoy the sport?

If you are in Fairfax, try Fairfax Foxes. Otherwise, check out the Sea Devil Swimming. Both will tell you immediately what group, if any, would be a good fit for your child.

Where are you located? Which clubs didn't tell you?

I am surprised, usually they tell you immediately after the tryout. I would follow up with an email now and see if they respond. If not, they may not be a great fit, anyway. Poor communication.

We have done tryouts with NCAP-Burke and Mako, and were told immediately after tryouts.

That has not been our experience. I would suggest following up.

I agree with this. If a club doesn't get back to you or tells you they "forgot" that tells you something about their organization/attitude.

Try Tollefson or RMSC at Rockville (it's a bigger pool so room for different level swimmers). Good luck to your swimmer!
