Transferring after school year has started

My husband just received a great job offer, so we've decided to relocate to a new city next month. The schools there just reopened for the year, so my children would have to enter class about six weeks late. Has anyone ever been in this situation? Any advice on handling it, either with the schools or my children? I will probably seek to get them into a private school, but don't know how we'll be received. Thanks in advance!
