Is gene mutation always bad and causes autism?

for my 23 month old son

I know you are probably panicked but please do some research first before posting on a board full of families with children that have various genetic issues, autism and special needs and avoid using terms like "always bad." We want to help you (probably) but we all love our kids and don't think they are bad or marked.

No, most people have some gene mutation and it has no impact. There are some specific known ones (and many more unknown) that cause certain conditions. The cause of autism is not known.

I'm sure it's a scary time for you. Try not to do too much googling, there is so much junk out there you won't know how to sift through. Trust your doctors and specialists.

Thanks for the inputs , I agree I'm in panic mode.Like many parents we're going through lot of stress(anxiety).News from KKI that we need counselling/test for 'whole exome sequencing' to find out any abnormalities! I trust doctors , but issue is I need to wait for 4 months for appointment/results to come out!

We got a rare mosaic trisomy result while our son was in utero--mosaic meaning that some, but not all, of his cells showed a tripling of chromosomes that if universal is lethal. He is a delightful and brilliant kid with an Aspergers diagnosis, and my favorite person in the world. He is so great, despite--or really because of--the ways he isn't quite like everybody else. Have a stiff drink and wait this out. It'll be OK.

This is your third post about this. Gene issues can cause a whole host of issues of varying severity. Please get yourself to a genetic counselor as has been recommended previously. Nobody here can answer your specific questions.
