Title says it, DH and I are separating soon have kids. I need legal advice on separation and to how to start the divorce process in VA. We live in Fairfax County. Thanks.
And yes, we tried over the last several years to make the marriage work. This isn't what I wanted but it's what I'm getting so I want to be prepared to protect myself, my assets and my kids' interest. |

Robin Graine is in Fairfax and did an amazing job for us:

| Amanda G. Sow, LLC is great. She's based in Maryland, but she will travel to VA. |

Hire someone local - travel is $$ and so is the entire process - save the travel cost.
Interview several lawyers until you find someone that you feel comfortable with, and who you will listen to when they tell you something you don't like. You need to trust your lawyer. |

| Yes awesome custody attorney! Made a great case to the judge. Full custody. |
| Here are very professional divorce attorneys https://rightlawyers.com , I found them on a local forum, there were many good reviews on their services. I wasn't disappointed, too, guys work quickly and effective, helped me out with multiple financial issues during divorce. |

We used these folks for mediation. Their rates are cheaper than a lawyers, and then we just had our lawyers review, tweak, and formalize the mediation agreement which was accepted by the court with no issues.

I used Maureen Danker back in 2009. She is great. Very level headed and kept me in check when I was off the wall with my situation (cheating spouse). She was efficient and knows how the system works. She really was about getting me the best outcome and making sure my kids had stability.
Any good lawyer knows how their county's family court works. There are not a lot of family judges so a good lawyer will not want their names tarnished because it will make it harder to win against certain judges. Maureen is highly respected. Lawyers will do a consultation so you can see if their style matches yours. Good luck and go into your consultation prepared (know your finances, expenses, potential new living situations, what you'll fight tooth and nail for and what is negotiable). http://www.kbdfamilylaw.com/index.php/our-attorneys?id=50 |
