| We were at 4th birthday party today that was a water/splash party. They had water slides and baby pools set up in the backyard. They had some squirt guns in the baby pools and my son was spraying it in the direction of some adults. I said "You need to shoot the water that way if you are going to play with that, otherwise you'll have to put it down!" A mother(I didn't know her) rushed over to me and and told me not to use the word shoot around the kids and make sure not to refer to the sprayers as guns. I never used the word gun, but I did say shoot. I apologized and made sure no use those words but I honestly didn't realize someone would get offended by it. |

I try to refer to "spraying" rather than "shooting."
I'm not trying to have my kid say something inadvertently or intentionally that will get him kicked out of school or suspended. It's happened with others, right. |
| Shoot used this way is completely fine. That lady is crazy. |
| That lady is nuts. |
You were 100%. That other mother was over reacting. |
| That woman was nuts. I probably would have told her so. There is nothing wrong with "shoot". And there is nothing wrong with "water gun". |
| Sign of the times....... |
| Mom of 14 yo and 10 yo. You're fine, she needs to calm the eff down. |
| No, shoot is not a bad word. That is what a water gun does...shoot water. The other mother is nuts and unhinged. |
| The next time someone asks for an example of political correctness run amok, give this example. |
|
Lol i thought this was going to be a thread about shoot being a substitute for "shit."
That mom is nuts. Also she has no business policing you like that. |
| She's nuts and she's weird. You were fine Op. |
+1 on both counts. |
|
Bitch crazy.
Shoot is fine. Can someone give a clear, assertive response to this scenario? Without attitude? Thanks. |
"My language is fine, thank you. Lovely day, isn't it?" |
