question about pacifiers

Hi all--
I'm wonder if there is some collective wisdom out there about the type of material that's best for pacifiers--latex, silicone, or rubber. I think I've heard one is preferable but I can't remember which, or why. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!!

I think silicone ones are more durable - that is less likely to wear down and become a choking hazard.

I heard sillicone, but I don't remember why. DS had both sillicone and latex. The latex is softer.

According to some sources, silicone is preferable over latex for pacifiers and bottle nipples. The thought is that use of latex nipples/pacifiers may lead to latex allergies later on. That said, there are countless babies that only had latex nipples and have grown into fine, upstanding citizens.

Also, I think latex can get sticky/tacky after a while. I think this may mean the chemicals are breaking down????

Anyway, we used silicone.

silicone is safer for your baby.

But you should wait to see what type your baby wants, and if s/he wants a pacifier at all.
