" *NEW* We are now accepting late lottery applications for the following program locations and grades:

Dual Language at Cesar Chavez ES Kindergarten (Native Spanish speakers only)

Spanish Immersion at Overlook ES Kindergarten Only

French Immersion at Maya Angelou Academy Kindergarten Only

TAG Program schools listed below by grade level (students must be TAG identified to participate)

2nd and 3rd grade locations - Capitol Heights, Glenarden Woods, Heather Hills, Highland Park, Longfields, Mattaponi and Valley View Elementary Schools

4th and 5th grade location - Longfields Elementary School

6th grade locations - Benjamin Tasker and Walker Mill Middle Schools

8th grade location - Walker Mill MS

Applications will be considered in the order received by the Department of Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries.

Yikes, basically isn't that a listing of schools that are experiencing problems? Not enough people interested in lottery the first time around isn't a problem with good programs, after all.

This is congruent with the data from last year. By the beginning of the school year they had pretty much offered everyone on the wait list for TAG 2nd and 3rd grade slots but there was a big wait list for 4 the 5th. Walker Mill also made it to the bottom their waitlists last year. Kenmoor and Greenbelt MS had the biggest TAG waitlists which is why starting a new program at Tasker was such a big deal. I expect that once Tasker's program is up and running and next year when Heather Hills students don't have the option of choosing to go to Kenmoor that the wait list situation is going to look different.
