Gift Suggestions for a young woman leaving for college

My babysitter is leaving for school next week and I'd like to get her something. It's been so long - I can't think of something she might need. Her mom took care of the birth control so she doesn't need help in that department....

A gift card for just about anything (books, music, gas, coffee chain, clothing store, furniture store etc) would be nice. Or maybe gift some frequent flyer miles if she needs to travel by air to visit home.

I agree with PP about gift cards. Especially to places like Target or Walmart where she can decorate her room for cheap. (and in some cases buy groceries or gas for her car too).

If you really want something specific, I say ask her mom for some suggestions.

If she's driving to school, maybe you could get her an itunes gift card so that she can download some music for the drive.

Here's what I always get girls going to college, and they've loved it.

A big tupperware bin filled. Inside, put a small dry-erase board with markers, a set of cute melamine plates and silverware (target-type stuff). A hammer and some nails. A screwdriver. Some stores sell cute tools with flowers, etc if you want to get fancy.

These are all things that she'll need in the first week putting her room together, and it will be so nice to have it already. She'll use it all for years.
