How important are written comments in ES report cards?

Do the next years teachers even get to read the report card comments on incoming students?

The comments are for the parents, not for next year's teacher.

In FCPS, they just check which pre-written comments they want to include. So meaningless, really.

Teachers have told me adding comments is not so user friendly so there are a lot of canned comments. Meaningless.

Significant, I think. But that's because the comment referred to my kid as highly intelligent.

Absolutely hate the "pre-canned" comments. DD had several on hers but they were all gobble gook Ed speak and really conveyed nothing.

Meaningless. The comments in fcps at least are canned - from a giant book of comments. GIANT. My son's teacher made a mistake this year and accidentally wrote the same comment three times. I don't think next year's teachers look at the report card at all.

Was it the "Have a nice summer" comment? If so that was a glitch in the system.

At some point we may refer back to a Progress Report here and there, but for the most part we do not.
