Egg Donor Sharing

Anonymous
Can anyone shed some light on the costs of being an egg donor recipient? I've checked into Dominion Fertility and they only offer a non-egg sharing option, which is $30,000 not including any meds. I know Shady Grove does an egg sharing program and I assume that's cheaper, but they haven't gotten back to me.

I don't think any of the local options are much cheaper. CNY in upstate NY is pretty reasonable, as is an RE in Jacksonville, FL (Reproductive Institute. . . ?).

Try Cornell in NYC, specifically Dr. Owen Davis. Good luck! I hope things work out for you.

Shady Grove's No Risk 2:1 share with 6 attempts cost about $38K.

TO the psoter who recommended Cornell, what do you think are the advantages of going there for egg donation? I may do a hail mary cycle w/my own eggs at Cornell if things don't work out for me at SG. But I had always figured that for egg donor cycles going to the best clinic didn't matter as much b/c the donor eggs are good enough quality that even an RE who is just "pretty good" can get someone pregnant. Am I missing something? Any insight would be very much appreciated!!!

I agree with the PP. I wouldn't go all the way to Cornell for egg donation. Odds are excellent so no reason to do it.

I would also want to know more about the number/quality of egg donors at Cornell. Cornell is in the middle of nowhere (unless the IVF clinic is in NYC?).

There are a large number of excellent and diverse donors available in this area.

TO the last PP, Cornell's med school and its IVF clinic are in NYC -- not up in Ithica.

Hi -- I was the person who originally said to check out Cornell. My recollection is that the costs are posted on Cornell's website; at the very least, I'm sure they can mail you all the info. I recommended them because a few women in my support group were going there for these reasons: 1) the timing from start to finish was potentially much faster than some clinics here (such as SG -- although most of us did IUI/IVF cycles at SG and were very happy with our care there); 2) the costs were less (because of sharing, which does have both pros and cons, depending upon what you're looking for); and 3) the doctors. Sorry, I don't know much else, but I thought it might be worth your time to at least check it out.

FWIW, I had a successful IVF at SG at the age of 39 after three failures, and now am pregnant naturally at 41. I was diagnosed with very high FSH levels (levels > 40 on a few tests). So, I do think it's partly going to the best docs you can (I used Frank Chang at SG) and also luck. I'm sending you lots of good wishes during the course of this tough journey. My best to you!
