Help! Expired US passport (minor) and International vacation travel on July 2nd

Booked vacation to Cancun, Mexico for july 2nd...and just realized that both of my kids US passports expired. Pl.help with my situation. Tried to schedule online appt. DC passport agency with no luck. Should we walkin tomorrow...
So disappointed....we were so looking forward to this much needed vacation...

| Yes call and make an expedited appointment for renewal. You will have to go in to the Passport Office for the appointment but they will give you an Appt if you have proof of travel within 2 weeks. Flight itinerary should work. |

Show up at the passport office (not post office) with a print-out of your airfare receipt, your checkbook, a completed renewal application, the child, the other parent (or notarized form), and the old passport.
Also bring a book and cell phone charger. You're going to be there for awhile. |

Call your congressional rep first thing Monday morning, they should have a staffer for just this kind of problem. There is a secret passport office on nineteenth street above the main one in NW, diplomats, etc get to use it. BUT if you have a letter from your congress rep, you can also get in. I learned this on DCUM years ago and found myself in a similar situation when my FIL died and my DH needed to leave right away for another country. Our congressman got us a letter within hours, my DH showed up at the secret office first thing the next morning with the letter and his other documents, and he got a new passport in two hours.

| When this happened to me - found out passport was expired wed night and had a flight Tuesday at 9 pm - I called and was given an appointment at 8:30 am the next day. You need to have a passport photo. |

You can't just walk in anymore. You need an appointment. Call the number on the site linked above. |

Called on-line appointment no...next available slot is 07/07...Travel is on 07/02 Will walk in tomorrow..and see.. |

| This happened to us. Walk in with all paperwork and photos and they will do an expedited passport. Also bring your travel information so they can see that you need it asap. We live in Charlotte, NC and had to drive to Atlanta because North Carolina does not have an actual passport office. You will be fine. |

We walked into the passport office at 600 19th Street when we realized DS's passport had expired. They say appointments only, but there were plenty of walk ins. Go at 8 am when it opens. We were in and out of the office in 55 minutes. I thought it would be like MVA.
For a government office, the people working there were very nice. I was prepared for a horrible day. We went on a Friday and we had the passport on Tuesday. Just double check you have all the documents you need and don't sign the DS-11 until you get there. Be sure to take a notarized document from your spouse. We were going out of the country for a vacation, so our situation was not emergent. They all were incredibly nice. I was so impressed. I did this three weeks ago. I don't know if there are any changes since then. |
