People like to trash 2028 as a down year in the DC area, but I don't think that is necessarily accurate. They lost too much talent to the Baltimore teams.

So let me get this straight, you were able to deduce that the talent dropped off in the DMV since in 2024 Cap Blue was ranked #16 with a 7-14-1 record and their 2028 team is ranked #21 with a 10-13-2 record? 2023s were ranked #12 in year 2 (year 1 stats aren’t available anymore)

2024s went from #16 in year 1 to #8 in year 2.

2025s went from #4 in year 1 to #2 in year 2

All prior teams were much higher ranked than the 27's and 28's. Let's hope for the best in their recruiting results.

My 2028 daughter is my oldest, so I am not as wise and seasoned as some of the rest of you. However, I find it hard to believe that such competitive kids would turn into couch potatoes after they commit, and their year 3 results should be tossed out. I certainly didn't notice any of the junior and senior players taking a nap during the high school season. If my daughter pulled that stunt while I was still paying her club dues, I'd set her screen time limit back to 30 minutes.

What happens is MD clubs play their starters for most of the games in year three bec they’re hella worried about their rankings. Capital has won the race by this point and parents and parents can focus more on enjoying the year with each other. It’s an awesome experience. If any remaining girls need to get committed, those girls are given more time. The goal of club is to get committed to your top choice. The goal of HS is to win hardware for your school’s trophy case. Two totally different things

Lol, such cope. M&D and Heros give equal PT in HS, they are ranked higher bc they are better.

There are tens of top teams and hundreds of significant variables. It’s impossible, ridiculous actually, to state confidently that a drop off in ranking for one team is definitely related to lack of focus after committing when all the top teams are also experiencing the post-commitment blues/bliss. Correlation does not imply causation.

I'd be curious to know where you believe I said it was due to a lack of focus. Or any other reason. I said it didn't matter. Which again, most everyone knows and you should, too.

What's more concerning is you seem bound and determined to compare a final year ranking to a 1st year ranking. Why wouldn't you just compare 1st years to 1st years? And then look to what the next year (2nd) would need to be to have similar success? Is it because you're jonesing for credibility, so you're desperately seeking out validity even if it's the worst comparator? If I could think of another reason, I'd toss it out there.

Yes, some players from each age group choose to join Maryland teams. However, this trend appeared to be more pronounced among the 2028 group. Looking at the list of commitments for MD teams in the 2025 class, there are only a few DC-area players who committed to top Division I programs, indicating that the DC area retained much of its leading talent and successfully assembled a strong Capital team. In contrast, the 2028 group saw a more significant number—more like two handfuls—move to MD clubs, many of whom I think are likely to commit to top schools. Nevertheless, my original assertion remains: 2028 is not a down year for lacrosse OVERALL in the DC area.

The difference of an additional 2 players moving to MD clubs isn't enough to push a Capital team into the 20+ ranking category. I fear you're missing the fact that you're proving my point: There just wasn't enough broad talent at the 28 level to accommodate the typical (or maybe 2 more than normal) players who gravitate to MD teams every year. Usually there are players left who can keep Capital hovering around the 15 ranking slot or better. It didn't happen for the 28s. Hence the fact the 28s just don't have the depth compared to other years.

It wasn't 2 players. It went from 2-3 players annually to 10-12. Capital's blue is playing with half an orange team. Your theory needs a lot of work. Especially as you're making broad strokes about the entire region based on the foibles of one club team. And that's even if you had good information, which you obviously don't.

If my daughter pulled that stunt while I was still paying her club dues, I'd set her screen time limit back to 30 minutes.

What happens is MD clubs play their starters for most of the games in year three bec they’re hella worried about their rankings. Capital has won the race by this point and parents and parents can focus more on enjoying the year with each other. It’s an awesome experience. If any remaining girls need to get committed, those girls are given more time. The goal of club is to get committed to your top choice. The goal of HS is to win hardware for your school’s trophy case. Two totally different things

No they do not. I have watched the Capital 2026 with their equal play time rotations lose by one or two points or tie because they rotate players and on the sidelines are the two best middies and defenders watching their team lose. Hero and M&D keep their best players in during close games and capital (so frustrating) does their robotic rotations no matter the score. They even had a braveheart to break a tie against one of the best teams in the country and they did not have their 3 best shooting middies in! They lost!

While I acknowledge it has been discussed on this thread ad nauseum, it is worth noting (again) that many very good 2028 players play for M&D, Hero's, Et al. Had Capital been able to somehow return those players and successfully assemble a true DC-area all star team, the resulting team could have been on the same level as any in the country. People like to trash 2028 as a down year in the DC area, but I don't think that is necessarily accurate. They lost too much talent to the Baltimore teams.

You conveniently left out the 27s who started at 15 and are at 21 now

2027 will continue to rise in rankings. The 2026 were ranked #7 during recruiting summer and most recently ranked #10/#13 in two different rankings.. 2025 end of year was ranked #2. Also, some dropoffs can occur due to injuries-- I know 2026 was plagued with some injuries in several top players for the past two summes (several players required surgeries) and again this summer had some injuries I heard.

If Capital can't send all their players to UNC, BC and Northwestern then why are they still around? Pathetic excuse for a Travel club that can only get their girls into schools like Princeton, Harvard and Michigan....

Yes, some players from each age group choose to join Maryland teams. However, this trend appeared to be more pronounced among the 2028 group. Looking at the list of commitments for MD teams in the 2025 class, there are only a few DC-area players who committed to top Division I programs, indicating that the DC area retained much of its leading talent and successfully assembled a strong Capital team. In contrast, the 2028 group saw a more significant number—more like two handfuls—move to MD clubs, many of whom I think are likely to commit to top schools. Nevertheless, my original assertion remains: 2028 is not a down year for lacrosse OVERALL in the DC area.

The difference of an additional 2 players moving to MD clubs isn't enough to push a Capital team into the 20+ ranking category. I fear you're missing the fact that you're proving my point: There just wasn't enough broad talent at the 28 level to accommodate the typical (or maybe 2 more than normal) players who gravitate to MD teams every year. Usually there are players left who can keep Capital hovering around the 15 ranking slot or better. It didn't happen for the 28s. Hence the fact the 28s just don't have the depth compared to other years.

It wasn't 2 players. It went from 2-3 players annually to 10-12. Capital's blue is playing with half an orange team. Your theory needs a lot of work. Especially as you're making broad strokes about the entire region based on the foibles of one club team. And that's even if you had good information, which you obviously don't.

Many do not want to go to UNC, BC or Northwestern to deal with the big roster, transfer portal, fifth years and red shirts. They want high academic because lacrosse is not going to be their career. Believe it or not some players could care less about winning a national championship. Everyone likes schools for their own personal reasons, and they may not align with what your dream school may be. Different strokes for different folks. And half the Ivy leagues are in the top 25 D1 NCAA ranking - doesn’t get much better than that.

Not sure where you are getting 10-12 but I generally agree with this post. The ‘28 Blue team has some really top notch players and then there is some drop off in skills with some girls that you do not see on most top 10 teams if at all. I hope Capital looks to fill those positions with better players as I am sure they want to compete at the highest level.
