Hiring Service to do Injections

Anonymous
Hi all, has anyone hired a service to do the injections? I know there's Home Injection Plus and saw on similar threads people using Emily Clarke (but I can't find her online) but are there others? I also read that some people went to SG before their nurse left for the day and the nurse did it for them. For someone that did this, did the nurse charge you a fee? My husband usually does them b/c I just cannot do it myself. The shots are extremely painful for me (not just "oh this hurts" but physically limiting) but when I had to go away one night for work, I found a service in the town I was in and it was so easy, and practically painless so I'm wondering if my husband was doing it wrong. I know it's a lot of money to hire someone to do it but if he was doing it wrong, and I can't do it myself, I'm willing to make it work financially. Thanks for any suggestions!

I used Home Injections Plus several times. They were always great and worth the expense (in my situation) the times I needed them.

It really shouldn't hurt that much. I think DH is doing them wrong. Is he using the correct size needle? Going in fast and straight?

I always did my own shots. So much easier!

Are you talking about subcutaneous or intramuscular (progesterone?) shots? Not that it matters for the injection service but it might help us figure out what DH can do better

We have the right needles but he's probably not doing it fast enough. I know when I tried to do it myself, albeit in my thigh, it was painful.

IM. I can handle subcutaneous.

OMG, never ever ever do it in your thigh. That is the worst pain on earth. I did all my own shots and tried to tell this to a friend who was going to do her own shots for a few days. She didn't listen, of course, and couldn't walk afterward!

Did the nurse say that it's ok to do IM shots in the thigh?? Sounds really painful.

I did my IM in the thigh and it wasn't that big a deal. Not sure why all the outcry! I also have very strong thighs from years of running, maybe that helped!

Warm up the progesterone first, makes it thinner and hurt less going in (I used to put the bottle in my bra 5-10 minutes before the shot or DH can warm it up in his hand)

If an area is sore avoid it until it heals 100% or it will kill

This is probably not your issue but I realized that I was injecting with the wrong needle (they gave me one for drawing up and one for injecting and I just missed that fact for like 6 weeks - doh!)

If you think this is the worst pain on earth, pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood are not for you.

Not the PP but give it a rest. Have you ever experienced infertility or are you just here to slam those who have? I am dealing with secondary infertility and I will say that the heartache and medical annoyances such as painful injections are in some ways more painful than birthing my daughter (vaginally with a 14 hour labor). Of course labor is the big kahuna physically but it's also a moment of excitement and joy whereas infertility is just one long tough slog.

Not sure if this will help for IM shots, but for my subcutaneous shots I sometimes prepped with aspercreme which is suppose to "numb" the area.

Also nice video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-EY_4P67Hs

good luck!

At least recognize that YMMV. For me, the IV was the worst part of childbirth, and IVF was way worse than pregnancy.
