| Would you let you DC to go to HYPS School if you can afford to pay for it without debt? |
| Yes, but he picked Stanford instead and I think that was the perfect choice for his personality. |
| If they got in. Of course. Why not? |
| Umm - Stanford is the S in HYPS. Mine is also going to Stanford in the fall and we will be paying full freight. They say only 15% of students at Stanford pay 100% of the tuition. It makes me feel like a sucker to be one of the few paying full price but D worked hard and we can afford it. |
|
I really don't understand the question - if you can afford to send your kid to a top university, would you?
I think most people, if they can truly afford it, would just say "yes" |
| If we could afford it and the kid got in...of course! Why wouldn't I? (Unless I'm missing something?) |
Why did you have them apply if you didn't want to them to go there? |
|
Of course, if it's the right fit.
But the likelyhood of that happening, even if he is a great student, is extremely small, so I'm not going to waste my time thinking about it
|
| Please OP, tell us why not. Unless money is the issue... |
| No. Too expensive and too liberal crazy. |
|
I guess OP's point is that sometimes parents don't just want to get something for their kid just because they can afford it. Like, I guess I could afford to buy my kids expensive designer clothes, but I think that's a stupid waste of money, so I won't. I'm sure there are parents that feel that way about elite colleges.
Honestly, I'd feel that way about some private colleges that are not HYPS .... that they are very expensive and I'm not clear that they provide value over state schools. I do think that the elite level schools do provide a value, so I would pay for them if I could afford to and it was a good fit for my child. Everyone draws their own line at what they think is a waste of money. That's fine. |
| I do think that if money isn't the issue, this was a discussion that should have occurred prior to applying. |
I just fell off my chair laughing. |
| My husband was a 3rd gen legacy and my ILs are active alumni, so I am guessing they'll brainwash one of my kids into at least applying. |
I feel the same way. That's why I asked the question. |
