Are Federal jobs still open to the public ?

| It seems like ever since the freezing freeze ended, most of the federal jobs that I looked at are now only opened to current/former federal employees or veterans. Does anyone know if this will change in the near future ? |

apply what? on the application it asks what is your current or former govt agency. Unless you are suggesting to lie on the application. |

| Our internal freeze still isn't lifted. And when it is lifted we will post a bunch of internal hires that we need. We have many people who need to be relocated or who have been doing a different job than their PD with no way to correct this. I took over the job of someone who left and have been doing it since the end of November. We need to post the job on USA jobs and hire me to fill it so that my job can be legitimate. Red tape. |

If you have some super-specialized expertise like scientist, lawyer (with the right specialty), etc., then consider it.
Otherwise, if you're just a regular old finance, IT, HR, etc., type, and you're not a veteran or non-Asian minority, forget it. The applications take longer to file per job and you have to engage in stretches/strategies that are wholly not applicable outside the Federal workforce (Exception is if you're willing to start over again at like GS-7). |

| Contractors are being picked up after the freeze at some agencies, you can get in that way....if you want it you have to GO FOR IT, don't let anything deter you. |

| You guys, of the vacancy announcement says it is only open to current federal employees, they will only consider current federal employees. It doesn't matter how skilled she is, she'd be wasting her time applying. If it says open to all US Citizens then by all means, apply. |

| I've been on USAJOBS for two years EVERY NIGHT (no joke) the past couple of years and scanning the budget and accounting series there are definitely less "open to all US citizens" than I've ever seen. |

| Our agency is only accepting internal relocations. No external hiring yet except for a few very high level exemptions to the freeze. |

Op, have you ever heard of sequestration and the current federal job freeze? End game: decrease federal employment. Hence, very few new feds needed and only current feds needed to fill positions. Once the current fed retires, position is eliminated.
3 feds I know have retired in the past couple of years, all their positions have been eliminated. Same thing is happening in state government. |
