In my experience, coach behavior and player behavior has remained pretty consistent over the years, but parent behavior has gone downhill to an amazing degree. |
The parents are the worst - aggressive, super mean, loud know it alls. Just the worst. Perhaps refereeing should be done by 'parent volunteers' through high school since they know everything! |
I think, realistically speaking, that's gonna happen more and more. Either that or totally incompetent refs that are working games that are too hard for them. |
| I get really frustrated with basketball parents who don't know the rules yelling at refs. I want to scream when I hear parents yelling "travel" every time a kid does a Eurostep layup or screaming for a foul every time a shot is cleanly blocked. Please, please, please if you are going to watch basketball learn the rules and stop yelling at refs. |
| Yes, the quality of refs has drastically gone down. We left a league that only used youth volunteer refs. Very frustrating for the players,.coaches, and parents in leagues that don't have properly trained refs. The league we moved to has paid adults, and we don't have the problems with the parents - no need to berate a ref when they are making good calls. |
