NBC Washington is reporting that Jim Graham, former Ward 1 councilmember, has died. Was he sick? He wasn't very old. |
| Not a political fan, but saddened to hear that he has died. |
Wow not a fan either because he was very questionable on ethics and could be a total jerk to those who opposed him - but when we lived in Columbia Heights back before development - if we called his office - it got fixed or taken care of. Outstanding constituent service which Mary Cheh could learn from Plus, he was just adorable in those bow ties - always expected him to burst into "Somewhere Over a Rainbow" at whatever groundbreaking ceremony he was always at!
Saddens me that he is gone... |
| I used to see Jim at the AA meetings I attended. Even though we are polar opposites, he was a good man. |
Was this appropriate to say? |
If you're concerned that this poster is revealing that Jim was alcoholic, know that he was open about it. |
| The obituary from The Blade is well done. https://www.washingtonblade.com/2017/06/15/jim-graham-dead-71/ |

Did a lot of good. Did a lot of bad. Legacy with Whitman Walker and LGBT issues great. On the other hand, there is his chairmanship of WMATA to contend with, both the corruption allegations and the disaster that is now is and will affect our region for decades to come.
Calling it "questionable ethics" is truly downplaying his behavior. Why don't we just call it for what it is, he was DC's white Marion Barry for all good and evil. I mean, the man died a strip club promoter. What else is there to say? |
|
There were other things besides strip club promoter and recovering alcoholic that sullied his background far worse.
How they never came out is a testament to the sheer numbers of favors owed to him. Nevertheless, he's gone now, and it WILL come out. |
I doubt that. Everyone seems to be falling all over themselves to burnish his reputation now. |
its not appropriate. |
| He had his issues but was 1000 times better than the dimwit who replaced him. |
He was rotten to the core. Karma. |
I guess but I prefer my dimwit not take bribes. |
This thread is proof. |
